Your description of the problem is a little vague.
What happens when you press the remote? Does the opener make any indication that it is trying to work?

Well, here are some questions that may help you troubleshoot the problem.
I'm assuming that pressing the remote buttons do not get any response from the opener.
Is your remote antenna on the opener coiled up or coming straight down?
Did you check the wiring connections on the back of the opener and on the switch of the indoor remote?
Does it have power? Is the opener plugged in? Is the circuit breaker tripped?
Is the power source connected to a switched outlet?

If your opener does not seem to have any power, plug a lamp in the outlet.
If your opener does have power, try continuity tests on the remote wires.
You may also try and change the battery in your remote since it hasn't been used in a year.

That's all I can think of right now.
