Hi Christopher (and Chris),

... Contact a Structural Engineer/Architect for professional guidance. Depending on the current roof loads and such, from here, only an 'educated guess' can be made.

Or, contact a Builder to do see what he has to say.

Either that, or read How to determine loads and Truss & Span Tables, and start reading to bring yourself up to speed.

If none of the above, just take a few moments to think of how you're gonna explain to your Home Insurance Company why the attic is now part of the 2nd floor.
