With whichever tile or flooring you select, read the Warranty. Even though an 'old surface' is smooth and level, a particular flooring material MAY require a specific underlayment, or you void the Warranty.

So, before you buy, read the Warranty and ask the Installer/Contractor/Lowe's Know-It-All if they intend to 'back up the Warranty' and follow it. Reading the Installation Instructions, in advance of purchasing the material, too may be worth it.
