Gil, Had one other thought which, if possible, could be an added safety.

Once the wall is out, you'll know exactly how thick your floor is on top of the footing; if it's a full 4" or close to it, I would pour my landing 1" lower than the basement floor (except for the extension which will go under the doors; make it the same as the basement floor), but only do this if you can keep the landing pour at least 3" thick on top of the footing. This will give you a short curb at the doorway as insurance against water entering the basement in extremely heavy rains or should leaves cover the drain. Depending on which direction this area faces, and how much direct weather it will get, you might want to put in 2 drains as a precaution; I'd especially consider this if the landing needed to be the same level as the basement floor.
