Old time Stucco

Posted by Mitch J on April 2nd, 1999 07:54 AM

I have an eighty year old house in Akron, Ohio. The exterior is finished in real stucco. At one point in time, the foundation experienced a failure and left the stucco with several cracks/damage. I am debating replacing the stucco on one face of the building. I am having trouble finding material on authentic stucco and how to repair and/or replace it. I have heard nothing but bad news about the newer synthetic stuccos. Also, I would like to insulate while the walls are open. Would this be opening an other can of worms? I should mention that the existing stucco is supported by wood-lathe that appears to have been tar coated. The lathe is nailed directly to the studs and the house is balloon framed.
