old radiator heat house (100years) rip out or is it good

Posted by iann on June 29th, 2000 12:06 AM

I just bought this funky old house and i don't know about these old Rads and a natural gas boiler. how does this system work? Isuppose series loops and ciculate H20 from the boiler etc for the other loops I don't see a pump though. Oh boy I better get my wallet out for this one. Maybe reflective and insul. behind rads? What kind of maint. before winter in Canada? I have the thing turned off right now to conserve the cost of burning the pilot all summer and now I worry about air in the lines ? Valves- bleeder and large off type valve on each rad --very nice looking but was I a sucker Wife will kill me if I cut large holes in the oak floors to put in forced air hmm fire place may keep me in the good books. system looks like previous handy work/ repair is ok. I'm an electrician and would kindly exchange reciprecate...thanks
