Old Hard Rubber Carpet Matting

Posted by Mike Blumenson on July 20th, 1999 10:34 AM

I have a problem that was addressed on this message board about a year ago. It has to do with old rubber carpet matting turning into a very hard material that has adhered itself to the origional wood floor. I would like to refinish the floor but I have to get this material up first.

I tried the mineral spirts route and that did not work very well. The thinner does not seem to be soaking through the material far enough to make a difference.

I've also tried Sentinel 626 which works great on adhesives but not on this old rubber.

I've seen messages on this board regarding a product called "old and hard" but I can't find any web pages that give me a clue where to find it and my local stores have been no help.

Can anyone shed new light on this problem or suggest a product that specifically will help me get rid of this mutated rubber mat. Also, anyone that has info regarding the mfg. of "Old and Hard" would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
