Old furnace insulated with asbestos

Posted by Porcia on August 11th, 2000 03:18 PM

We are buying a brick house. The previous owners lived there for 25 plus years. The inspector suspects that the furnace, which is the original furnace ,is insulated with abspestos. The boiler plant, which has a new burner (the separate device that feeds the oil to the stove)is housed in its own closet. We understand that to replace the furnace is in the thousands of dollars. The inspector feels the boiler will out live us even though it is the original and as long as we don't aggravate the material the funace is wrapped with, we are in no danger. What do you guys think? Need Advice.
