Old-fashioned finish for old wood floors?

Posted by Margaret Fite on January 11th, 2003 10:35 AM

I've just cleaned the wood floor in a small room of our 100-year-old house, and have decided that it probably isn't necessary to refinish the floors, after all. There are some areas where the finish looks pretty worn, so I think I need to do something to the finish before I apply paste wax and buff. Suggestions?
Also, my mother always cleaned her old wood floors with mineral spirits - is there a better cleaner for wood floors w/o polyurethane finish? I've scared myself by reading the caution label on the side of the can...
