old farmhouse floors

Posted by Kathy In TX on October 28th, 2001 07:04 AM

Hi, hope you can offer some help. We have an old farmhouse built in '50. I used Goof-off and also sanded lightly to get off old paint drops. I am really not wanting to refinish the floors. Is there anything I can do to make it look better? It is a little blotchy looking and uneven. When my husband's granddad built it, the floors were never varnished. I was told they used some kind of oil on them and they always looked dirty.Oh, I did scrub them with cleaner and water. I know that's a no-no, but if you could have seen them, I really didn't think they could get worse. Anyway, thanks for any advice. Kathy in Texas
