Old Farm House Renovation - Appropriate Counter Top Material

Posted by Melissa Mack on January 12th, 2000 12:15 PM

Hi there! Can anyone out there advise me as to appropriate kitchen counter top materials which would be in keeping with an old 1900's Connecticut Farm House. Our cabinets are old inset style. Lots of bead board/wainscotting throughout house. What sort of counter top stuff did they use back then? What was originally in our home is long gone (renov. '74 by prev. owner), but we'd like to bring the whole house back to it's orginal roots & remain very true to this farm house style. Corian and granite seem too modern. How about slate? Any advice is truly appreciated.
