I'm not trying to be rude,but,an outlet is where you plug a devise in ,and a socket is where you put a light bulb. Next, are you sure the switch is not operating a light in the closet. { The condo I'm working on is set up this way.} Even if the outlet is switched,1/2 of the outlet is always hot. To explain the tab,on a outlet,the screws are connected by a metal tab to connect the screws together because you only have one power source comming into the outlet. One black,One white. On a seperated outlet,you would have two power sources.One from the breaker box, and one from the switch. If I'm confusing you, stay away from this project and call an electrician. I apologize for my bluntness,but electricity is not for a novice. If anything, find a book that explains electricity. Ron J.
