FROM A MAINTENANCE STAND-POINT AN OIL FURNACE REQUIRES MAINTENANCE AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR BEFORE EVERY HEATING SEASON TO MAKE SURE THAT NOZZLES, FILTERS, PUMP SCREENS ETC... ARE REPLACED AS WELL AS CLEANING THE BOILER ITSELF TO REMOVE ANY SOOT BUILD-UP THAT HAS OCCURED. THIS CAN BE VERY COSTLY(AROUND 150-175 DOLLARS A YEAR WERE I COME FROM) AS FOR A GAS FURNACE THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO MAINTENANCE EXCEPT FOR OILING ANY CIRCULATOR MOTORS OR INDUCED FAN MOTORS IF IT IS DIRECT VENT SYSTEM (MEANING YOU DO NOT REQUIRE A HOUSE CHIMNEY ,ASK YOUR LOCAL CONTRACTOR ABOUT THIS). I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
