oil over waterbased on hardwood floors?

Posted by Terri L on February 13th, 2000 04:13 PM

At the advice of a floor finisher, we put one coat of oil based poly over our new 3/4" cherry floor to bring out the color, then put 4 coats of water based finish over the top. It was winter at the time, so, we needed to get the job done quickly. The floor now has a milky look to it and has rub marks and scratches everywhere. I hear you get a more durable finish with oil. Can I put oil finish over a waterbased finish?
