You won't get much help on this forum if any at all. Most of 'us' are not big fans of painting brick, or re-painting it for that matter. It's a shame you bought the place not knowing about what paint does to brick. It seals the pours which accellerates its age, it turns a maintenance-free home into one that's now requires maintenance, it decreases the value of a home, and more. (In fact, we loved one home we saw a few years ago but its brick was painted. What a shame ...)
You might want to try Ask Dr. Paint if you don't get any help here. If I was you, which I'm not, but if I were, I'd consider seeing what it would take to have it done, or move. DON'T sandblast! And don't do anything to the brick that will remove the outer 'shell' of the brick. Sorry, but that's all I have. My best to ya and hope this helps.
