non-slip surface on the step treads of railroad ties

My swim/tennis club used railroad ties as step into the club. There are approximately 15 steps. The original construction was done very well, and the steps have held up nicely since 1983. However, when they get wet they are very slippery. What would you suggest we do to add some type of non-slip surface on the step treads?
