In reply to lay hardwood floor over infloor heating by frank summers on April 19th, 2002 07:09 PM [Go to top of thread]

should you glue a hardwood floor to concrete. There are prefinished hardwood products out there that are glued on the tongue only and the whole floor becomes one unit that expands and contracts as a whole unlike traditional hardwood which is nailed one board at a time and moves one board at a time. The prefinished floors(like Pergo)would need to sit on a vapor barrier and thin pad which takes some of the shock, and that's all.No gluing down, no nailing. The only way I would install a traditional hardwood floor to concrete would be to first lay a vapor barrier, shoot or tapcon 3/4 ply to the conc, then the hardwood.
