running the planks the long way will make the hall look bigger and asthetically look nicer. Running the short way will look strange upon entering. I would definately research this situation before doing it. See some pictures even run some planks in a dry run both ways to see what you think.

Think also of resale value and how that first impression is made when entering.

I would definately go the long ways.
