No, paint doesn't work on Formica...

If your countertops are orange, your kitchen is probably 25 years old or more. Chances are, what you really need to do is a complete remodel with new cabinets and appliances, but it doesn't sound like the gods of finance are in to that.

It is theoretically possible to strip your existing formica from the substrate and apply new formica, but if the substrate is 25 years old, it probably isn't in good enough shape to get away with that.

So, I have two suggestions:

Learn to cook with the lights off.

Save your pennies.

Painting the countertops will only result in a painted surface that scratches really easy, peels off outright, or flakes off. Don't do it.

Someone else may have some other suggestions...
