Fortunately, the furniture itself is steel office furniture; but it is topped with laminate, and I'm guessing that the laminate is backed with particle board.

I bought one of those cute table-top fountains, and this is what happened when water accumulated along the edge where two pieces of furniture met. I thought I was safe because the laminate itself would resist the splashed water, but didn't think about the water wicking along a seam.
