I would get a continuity tester and test the wires between the last operating receptacle and first dead one. You will measure continuity between one or both wires. If both measure ok, then the wire is ok and you have some other problem. If one is ok, then you have a broken lead and I would recommend running a new 3-wire line between the two receptacles.

If neither line tests continuity, then you may have guessed incorrectly how your wiring runs flow. Or something cut both leads, and they could easily cross and blow the breaker. Would be a potentially dangerous situation with sparking. Once you disconnect both ends of a "bad" wire, only then can you assume it to be safe.

Happy troubleshooting and happy holidays.

Remember to proceed safely, and turn power off to the circuit before you begin testing for continuity.
