New wall weight

Personally, this wall will not be any more weight than a queen or king size bed. The wall will span such a wide area that the square foot of pressure on one spot is not that great.

It would have been ideal if the joists were running perpendicular to the wall, but this was not the case.

I would consider though only using 1/2 inch drywall, 1/4 would be lighter but would ding easily, and 3/4 would be too heavy.

Lets hear others comments on this idea. It may be a code violation and I am sure we will hear about it, but consider your studs every 24 inches rather than 16 inch OC.
