new roof to withstand hail storms

if you have frequent hail storms you probably cannot consider a metal roof like aluminum, etc. Hail will beat dents into a metal roof. So probably you only possible choice is to go back with asphalt/fiberglass shingles. and to put new shingles on...the two old layers will need to be removed due to excessive roofing material weight on your roof rafters. wood shingles would not hold up well to high winds...mexican tile or slate roofing shingles are expensive, heavy but may hold up well to both wind and hail but again your old roof layers will need to be removed and you may have to beef up support to handle the weight of the tile and slate materials. but they will last almost forever. Hope this helps. LJ
