We just bought a new home in IL built by Town & Country on 5-31-00. This past July 21st we came home from a day at the beach to water in the basement. We knew there was water because it smelled of a sewer gas type smell. We later saw watermarks to show 4"+ at that time. Sept 18th it happened again. This time we were home. Since it had been storming we checked the basement. It was dry and the sump pump pit was idle as it always is, and no water from the tile trikling in. We went back to bed. 20 min later we smelled the familiar smell of sewer gas comming up through the master bedroom sink drain. Went to the basement and there was 6" of water and rising! What could be the problem? We also have a stom sewer on our lot about 3' away from the side of our house and about 1 1/2' below the concrete floor. We had just finished half of the basement and estimated damages to property and building materials (including the laber to replace/fix) at $21,300. All Town & Country said is our warranty on the foundation is 1 year, too bad. We have a 2 year warranty on the plumbing and sewer systems. I'v been in contact with our village, but not a peep from Town & Country. What can/should we do?
