New Garage Slab Cracking

Posted by Sarah on July 10th, 1999 08:25 PM

We just had a garage slab poured on Thursday. By Friday afternoon the whole slab had cracks all over it. They are not deep. When I drag my finger nail over it, I can hardly feel it. And in one spot, about 3'x 2', the area is not slick, it is pitted, like rain drops hit it and washed some of the concrete away.

It was poured at 8:30am and the morning temp was 65 degrees and by afternoon it was 77 degrees (Seattle). When the contractor was leaving, I asked him if I should wet it down to keep the moisture in and he said no, he had just put a sealant on it and it would hold the moisture in.

What has happened? Should I call the contractor, can it be corrected? If not, should I ask for a discount? (I already gave him payment in full via a check).
