Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) will only install the "network interface" along with the standard line installation. Most houses have these on the outside of the house but sometimes these are located on the inside.

Note to JAM: If this line is being used for an internet connection you have the best chance for a static free connection if you run a relatively heavy, solid wire phone line directly from the outside interface all the way to a junction box at your computer. If you tap into your existing house phone wiring you might get some crackle.
