if your considering laminates then lay down that sound barrier and spongy material and lay the floor directly over that. either use the snap together or the tounge and groove kind. But I do not know of any laminate that needs glueing or nailing.

Real wood flooring does need that.

Not sure which your considering.

go to your home center on the day of demostrations on that flooring and you will learn it quickly and do yours yourself in one night.
