I'm installing a 3.0 exterior door with side lights. My exising door is just a plain 3.0 door. I'll need to replace the header. This is a load bearing exterior wall with one floor above. The joists are perpendicular to this wall. Is there a need to support the ceiling while replacing the header. It normally wouldn't be that bad, except my ceiling is a stucco ceiling and I don't want to muck it up.
The wall is in a foyer and the is only 9 ft long with a perpendicular wall at each end. After cutting out the old header the would only be 6ft6in of wall unsupported until I got the new head in. I was hoping this would be enough to temporarily support the wall. What do you think?
