Please settle an argument. Is it possible or advisable to remove about four feet of soil from right next to the back of a house? The back of the house is about forty feet long. The house has a basement with poured concrete walls and is located in an area with big problems with expansive soils. The object is to level out the back yard of this house.
One person says that this would be easy. Just get a shovel and start digging. Another says that removing the soil could mess up the basement walls and/or the foundation, so consult a professional about the whole idea. Better yet, if you want a flat backyard, move. Who is more right? Thanks for your input.
