Need a new furnace

Posted by Bill L on February 22nd, 2001 06:12 PM

I finally decided it's time to junk my old (40+ year old furnace) and get one of the best I can. I was thinking of either a Lennox or Trane, but really don't know much about either, other than they are well known.

My present furnace is 130,000 btu, and my last 3 gas bills were $450, $665 and $535. My home was built in 1925 and is not insulated (other than the kitchen and bath, that I remodeled) so I don't know how much a new furnace would actually help (but sure can't hurt I guess)

I aslo wasnt to add central air, but am not sure how well it would even work in this old house, with floor registers.

Any suggestions on brands/models, or what to avoid?

I'll more than likely wait until spring to get this work done. What should I expect to pay? Is $4,000 high, or about right?
