I'm familiar with both areas. Asheville is next to the Smoky Mountains. It is colder and has more hillbilly types nearby in the mountains but the town itself is somewhat urban. Raleigh is in a moderate climate, very urban and upscale. It is next to the reseach triangle which consists of Duke, Wake Forest, and Univ of NC. It has a lot of new development there and is about 2.5 hrs from the coast. I was there this summer and don't have much bad to say about it. Both places as most of the state is heavily forested with pine trees, etc. Why are you relocating and why those two places?
