I don't know if you all have seen these but there is a type of nail puller used in the 20's that still is available in limited production. It used to be used to pull nails out of crates and is a cross between a crowbar and a parrots beak. If you want to see one go to ebay.com and do a search on nail puller there are ususally a few out on bid. The puller has a telescoping handle that slides up and down and serves as the mallet that drives the beak into the wood. Once on the nail pulling to the side make the beak bite harder into the nail as you just pry it out. These are the best nail pullers on the market and do great with finish nails or old wood that you don't want to damage very much.
