MYSTERY BASEMENT SMELL

Posted by JR on September 21st, 1999 09:35 PM

OUR BASEMENT HAS A SMELL THAT SEEMS TO BE COMING FORM THE WALLS. WELL MORE SPECIFICLY, WHEN THE HOUSE WAS BEING BUILT 50 YEARS AGO THEY DUG OUT AN AREA OF THE BASEMENT FOR A FRUIT CELLAR. THAT AREA WAS THEN BLOCKED OFF BY THE CINDER BLOCK WALL WE KNOW HAVE. FROM THAT AREA IN THE BASEMENT AND EVEN ON THE MAIN FLOOR WHERE THERE IS A FRONT HALLWAY OVER THAT FRUIT CELLAR THERE IS AN ODOR THAT NO ONE CAN SEEM TO IDENTIFY. WE HAVE HAD PLUMBERS AND WATERPROOFERS COME IN TO GIVE US ADVISE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. OF COURSE EVERYONE IS WILLING TO DO SOMETHING THEY THINK MIGHT WORK FOR A VERY LARGE FEE. HELP! WE ARE LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL MASK THE SMELL. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
