being a family room away from spills, comodes, and sinks and frequent water spills, I would go the luan route. Think you will be ok, Be sure to over screw down the luan with stainless screws to stop any give or bow or bounce.

Now, if you would have said the flooring in a bathroom, kitchen, or mud room, the cementious board would be needed.
