but give us more info. if she were to cut the carpet away from the door/entry way does it leave carpeted area on both sides of the door or just one side and the other side and room is all hardwood floors? as a minimum, I believe, after making the cut she wants in the carpet and removing it, she will need to remove the existing carpet tack strip that held the previos edge taught and down onto the hardwood and install new tack strip under the new edge and rent a carpet stretching tool that you kick with your knee to stretch the carpet back over the newly installed tack strip to get the carpet to grab back onto the tack strip then the carpet edge may need to be trimmed and tucked back under to give a finished edge look.....Sound tricky and involved.,,thats why I suggest hiring it out to someone who does it for a living.
