If you are going to put in 3/4 inch oak wood floor that is going to be nailed to the existing floor/joists, I would forget the additional subfloor and put the oak flooring right over the 1/2 inch plywood. Plenty of strength there.
But any of the other flooring types should have additional support. In my opinion, I would use 5/8 inch plywood for a total of 1 1/8 thickness.
