I recently bought a new home that has a very worn down linoleum floor. I am pretty sure the wood floor underneath is in good condition since it has only had 2 previous owners who are both from the same family. I want to remove the linoleum, but have heard horror stories about the process. A friend of ours suggested that we coat the tar with Murphy's Oil Soap, cover with newspaper (to prevent the water from running everywhere) and then pour boiling water on top. You let this sit until the floor cools significantly and then are able to scrape away the tar. Is this too good to be true? Please let me know if you have any information on this procedure. Thanks.
