Mud vs. Cement Board

If the addition is the same height as the old subfloor, you would be O.K. with Cement Boards, after all they were created to replace Mud Beds.

The chances of settling are more with the weight of a bed as compared to the cement boards and the mud bed would still settle with the house, since both are on the floor, where the floor goes so will the substraight.

There really is no answer for settling concerns other than good foundations.
