More on compacting soil

Thank you so much for your response. Where would I get a tamper? Can I buy one or rent one? This sounds like a good thing to own if not to expensive. I mostly have Home Depots around me. The Lowes' isn't open yet and the Builders Square is out of business.

In case your interested in more of my situation:
I have recently moved into this house. Funny you should mention Azalia. That is what I took out. They were planted way to close to the house. My home inspected noted this and told me to at least cut them back 18". I have been getting water through my cement block basement. Just on the surface of the block. I think that this bad grade may be the problem. So I decided to take them out so I could regrade.
