The post and beams are about five years old and in good condition. The reat of the deck has been disassembled and used for a pool enclosure. I plan on using new pressure treated 2x10 and 3/4 treated plywood for the floor. I realy don't want to get a permit and surely don't want to pay more taxes. But, I still want it to spec for any inspections down the road. There are a number of reasons why I don't want to dig footers and brick the foundation to match the house. I thought the look of the room, after some skirting along the bottom, wouldn't look out of place. I've seen cantilever framing were it extend out four feet on a second story master bedroom. On the coast they build houses on stilts. I read in a framing book at Lowes that the cantilever shouldn't extend past the beam no more than the width of the joist. 2x10=10". Is this law? I'm doing my research and trying to save some time. Thanks for your help.
