Another factor is corrosion. Use the best, and usually most expensive, level that you can afford. Normally, the best would be stainless steel, followed by hot dip galvanized, but I do kind of remember something about cedar being different in this regard. I'll try to check it out and get back quick but no promises. I do know that rust stains every 16 or 24 inches are not attractive.
