I think there is much confusion about regarding "stripping" a floor. What could you possibly have been doing for weeks and months? Are you using a scraper or paint stripper? This is not the way to "strip" a floor. Any wood floor can be stripped with a commercial floor (drum) sander in one day. If your house's circuits are not up to the task then it should be wired into the panel by an electrician to avoid doing damage to your machinery and your wiring, and to avoid your house from burning down. As for the smoke, maybe the motor was frying from too little juice, or the sandpaper was clogged and needed changing, or it wasn't a heavy enough grit... hit "control F" from the main message board page and search for "wood floor" and you will find many posts that lay out the step by step details of sanding a floor. Good luck!
