as you describe. I have purchased Mohogany and have purchased Luan, and based on price alone, I can say that there is a BIG difference.
If you are interested in matching colors/texture to your old doors, but a luan door without the frame. It should cost less than $30. You can divide the door into many sections with masking tape to try your proposed stains and sealers.
I do not like the look of my doors and prefer the stile, rail and panel construction for doors. Don't know what to do about my current door situation. Doors require a pretty large shaper table (1.5hp+) to make.
