For Base boards I prefer to use finish screws
with a little bit of adheasive the srews are
just as small as #8 It would be the most cost
effective for your applications.The best way to do doors and windows, that I know of is to frame your metal Rough Openings so you can fur out the
opening with a 2x this will let you decide on screws or nailing, both will work.
