Metal Chimney noise / gas fireplaces

Posted by UlsterDavy on July 17th, 2000 02:25 PM

I just moved to this country so excuse my ignorance in some things!

My chimney makes a little rattling/banging noise at certain times when it is cold outside
but not neccesarily windy. I do not use the fireplace.
It just gets annoying when watching TV in the den.
Any ideas to repair? What type of person would look at this?
What possibly can be done to repair it? Am I being too picky here?

Also, it has a gas pipe running into the fireplace that I may decide to use later by getting a gas fireplace.
I was told that I could block off the chimney and make it unvented for better performance.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
