BC, thanks for the info. Sadly, the deadline for submitting a claim has passed, but I am still glad to know that this problem exists. We started getting little white granules in our faucet aerator about a month or so ago. I first thought it was some mineral coming in from our water company, then noticed it was in the hot water only and thought, maybe it was some mineral buildup that had caked up and finally started flaking off. I didn't mind so much, but at the same time the wife started complaining she wasn't getting as much hot water in her mega-tub as she used to. I flushed the unit, just to be sure I didn't have such a huge build-up it was keeping the water from heating, and got more of these little white pieces, including some pretty large pieces (3/8 inch across, maybe). Does this sound like the diptube is busted on mine?
The important question is, is this a do-it-yourself job? If so, where can I turn for some instructions? My water heater runs on natural gas, if that matters.
