i have worked in a company that was manufacturing wood and mdf mouldings and wood ones.first mdf is wood fiber so as any wood product,the moisture factor is a major player in what you are doing if it is humid the natural wood will eventually warp depending on grain direction and mdf does like cardboard it absorbs and swells so if you are planning to paint i suggest for mdf use primer and for wood depending if it is clear of knots and jointed use a knot stain(dont know how to say it in english)to prevent coffee stains and the knots of the wood to bleed through paint benjamin moore does a good 1 and prime and paint stain killer is very important for it not to bleed through paint...... it does even through 6 hope this helped
