IF the water in your basement isn't getting 'channeled' to your sump pump, then a means needs to be 'added' to permit this. This is probably what the contractor is talking about.

Usually, drainage is dug out along the inside of the wall and channeled to the pump. It's that simple. BUT, you need to look at the CAUSES of the flooding. There are an awful lot of posts on the Forum that talk about CRAWLSPACE and BASEMENT water. Search for those words with your Browser's FIND Feature. I hate to repeatedly repeat myself, if you know what I mean. I'm not trying to avoid answering your question. It's been done a LOT of times.
