Having made the first 'boo-boo', ie., (not finding out what to do about the glue BEFORE you tried to 'fix' it), I suggest you have a pro come in and do the touch-up.

Most likely, he'll attempt to fix the spots by sanding the damaged area and applying a layer or 2 or 3 of polyurethane. If that doesn't work, he may end up having to take the boards out. The first fix may be noticable but maybe not that noticable. He may want to try to fix just one and see how it comes out. If it doesn't look too bad, he may try to do the rest. He may ALSO try to fix them all at once knowing in advance that if his fix DOESN'T work, the boards will have to come out anyway.

I suggest you get a few bids on the job and talk about these 2 fixes. W/O seeing the damage and its extent, it's hard to tell from here what can be done, for sure. My best to ya and hope this helps.
