There is a 2-story shotgun type house that is being renovated. The 1-level is double bricked, and the 2-level is wood frame. The windows, and doors on the 1-level will all have to be replaced. Also about a 7' x 10' section of the brick wall will have to be replaced, and the rough openings left after the units and doors are removed is no where near square. The mortar between the bricks appear to be concrete, and somewhat powdery. I would like to leave the interior brick walls exposed if possible.
My questions are:

1. Is repointing one of my options in leaving the interior brick walls exposed?

2. Is there a moisture barrier needed between the double brick wall?

3. What steps should be followed when preping to lay a brick wall?

4. What steps should be followed when laying a brick wall?
